Mandeville: My favorite place to roller ski is the Tammany Trace- a 40 mile Rails Trail project, only 30 miles from New Orleans. It runs between Slidell and Covington. You say you are tired of those long uphills and you need a break from those subzero mornings? Well the Tammany Trace is for you. Imagine roller skiing within a couple of blocks of the coast, gazing at alligators as you ski over bayous and replenishing your fluids at the Abita Brew Pub. Winter temps hover in the 50's for several weeks. Summer - well, let's just say that on the average day both the temperature and the humidity are in the upper 90's. It sucks! So cuddle up with an issue of Couloir and do like the locals - stay inside and hit the booze. P.S. I am loving my roller skis . Jeff Sands, transplant from Alaska
